Oftentimes we’re called upon to show up with a smile, a sweater and a snack or beverage to some holiday shindig. While there are certain guidelines to help you dress to impress, many of us aren’t quite as sure when it comes to wine. Additionally, a great bottle of wine can be the perfect present in nearly any circumstance (provided, you know, you’re giving to an adult). I stopped into The Tasting Room to get some advice on wines worth getting and giving this holiday season.
Wine Tasting Podcast: The Tasting Room, Fresno – Listen in on my tasting session with Josh while you view the pictures below. Happy (vicarious) tasting!
Josh described Mount Eden, an Edna Valley Chardonnay as oaky with a creamy finish that pairs well with turkey and will make any holiday table a little more wonderful. Alternately, if your host is serving up ham, he recommends the Pinot Patch Pinot Noir ($21) as a well-balanced red that’s “lights out”.
If you’re trying to choose a bottle to give, you can’t go wrong with full-bodied wines; case-in-point: Herman Story Winery out of Paso and his Cabernet/Syrah/Petit Syrah/Petit Verdot blend. Blends are like parties – the more the merrier. If you really want to knock them out of the ball park, pick up the Superstrata, a local take on a Super Tuscan, is 65% sangiovese/30 cab sauv /5% cab franc.
